Academic Qualifications
PhD, Physiology & Medicine, Trinity College, University of Cambridge, graduated 1977.
BSc, Case Western Reserve University, graduated 1973. 

 

Overview
Dr. Mason is a highly motivated and organized individual with a good track record in developing innovative advanced technology businesses, and realizing shareholder value via trade sale or flotation, having been involved in more than 70 M&A, licensing deals and financings in the UK, Europe and USA. He is a non-executive Chairman and/or Board Director of several UK high technology private and/or publicly quoted (UK and US) companies in healthcare and biosciences. He also undertakes interim management roles for his consultancy vehicle, Vision Resources. He is an Executive Director of Sage Healthcare, with offices in UK, USA, Israel, Japan and Australia.

 

Dr. Mason has considerable experience with both publicly and privately funded companies, including the successful strategic and commercial development and value realization of high technology, life science- and healthcare- focused industries. These include pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical technology and diagnostics companies, where he has worked with private equity and institutional investors, VC funds and corporate finance firms in the life science and health care domains.

 

Dr. Mason a strong history of founding, funding, developing, turning around and exiting from a number of companies in this space, as well as working with well-established, more mature companies on M&A and licensing deals. He has considerable experience of commercial development of healthcare businesses, in respect of sales and marketing and distribution routes to relevant markets, as well as the regulatory requirements to take programs to commercial realization.

 

He has led, advised and been actively involved with a number of IPOs and secondary fundings (including PIPEs) in public markets (LSE, NASDAQ) in addition to numerous funding activities for private equity companies. He has strong management, transactional and financing experience with both private equity- and publicly- funded companies.

 

Dr. Mason has considerable experience as a Chairman and Member of Remuneration, Audit and Nominations Committees in public and private companies. He has also worked for an extended period as an Advisor to the UK Cabinet Office on strategic development of science and technology in Britain.

 

As well, he has been a Trustee of several charitable trusts including English Touring Opera, Cambridge Music Festival and Cambridge Arts Theatre. He Chaired the Year of Opera and Musical Theatre for the Arts Council of England.
